Kindergarten

Carlsbad Unified is launching a Full-Day Kindergarten Pilot at Jefferson and Hope Elementary Schools beginning in the 2025–2026 school year. All kindergarten classes at both pilot schools will follow the extended-day schedule.

Registration information is available below, with a program overview available on the district website.

 

The first day of school for the 2025/26 School Year is Tuesday, August 19, 2025.


To enroll for kindergarten, a child must be five years old on or before September 1st and parents MUST present:

  • Parent/Legal Guardian I.D.

  • Student's Birth Certificate

  • Immunization Records
    (The patient yellow immunization card OR printout from patient portal showing dates with physician/clinic stamp or info, patient name, birthdate with all required vaccines.)

  • Two district-approved Proofs of Residency documents dated within the past 30 days. Such as:

    • SDG&E bill (entire first page with remittance slip - addresses match - within 30 days)

    • Utility/Water bill (entire first page with remittance slip - addresses match - within 30 days)

    • Escow, Lease, Rentral Agreement, Mortgage Statement, Car or Health Insurance, etc.

  • For Kinder Pre-Enrollment

  • Copy of IEP or 504 Plan – if applicable

Shared Housing and Residency Documents: If you are sharing a home, you will need to provide additional information, including a Shared Housing Proof of Residency form. For more information, please contact the Hope Front Office.

Once all required items have been received, a confirmation email will be sent to you with final instructions. If you are not able to provide all listed items, enrollment will not be complete, and we will not be able to update our database until you are able to do so.

TK & Preschool

What is Transitional Kindergarten?

Transitional Kindergarten is a public school program for age-eligible students. It is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program. In 2025-2026, students turning 4 by September 1, 2025 will be eligible to attend TK.


Community Friends Preschool Program

CUSD offers a preschool program (for 3 and 4-year-olds) at two locations: Buena Vista Elementary School and Aviara Oaks Elementary School.
